CMI Foods, the food business unit of Corporación Multi Inversiones, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by achieving its second Carbon Neutral certification in Costa Rica. This time, the recognition was awarded to its animal feed production plant, where Aliansa brand products are manufactured.

This achievement builds on the prior certification earned by its human consumption flour production plant, reflecting the company’s holistic approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Comprehensive Sustainability Strategy

The Carbon Neutral certification was achieved through a series of measures implemented at the plant, including the use of renewable energy through solar panel installations and improvements to production processes to optimize energy usage. Additionally, thorough audits were conducted, and advanced technologies were adopted to reduce and offset the plant’s carbon footprint across all production phases.”

This milestone aligns with CMI’s broader sustainability strategy, driven by the strategic vision of Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, Chairman of CMI Foods, and Juan Luis Bosch Gutiérrez, Chairman of CMI’s Board of Directors. Gabriel Eisemberg, General Director of B4B (Business for Business) at CMI Foods, expressed his satisfaction with this new certification, emphasizing the importance of providing customers with products from a company committed to the environment and the communities it serves.

Regional Impact on Decarbonization

CMI Food’s efforts extend beyond Costa Rica, with similar recognition achieved at its animal feed production plant in El Salvador. Together, the two plants prevent the emission of 5,287 tons of CO2, making a significant contribution to reducing the region’s carbon footprint.

In Costa Rica alone, the certified plants prevent the emission of 925 tons of CO2 annually, reflecting the company’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability. These results are part of a rigorous process of planning and implementation involving leaders and multidisciplinary teams across the corporation.

Additional Sustainability Milestones

CMI Foods has achieved other notable sustainability milestones throughout the region. Over the past eight years, the company has prevented more than 366,000 tons of CO2 emissions by using nutrient solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in poultry farms and bird feed. It also actively promotes a circular economy by encouraging recycling and waste management. In 2023, the company exported more than 150 tons of vegetable oil waste from Pollo Campero and Don Pollo for biodiesel production.
