In June, the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation took another step in its mission to shape versed young leaders by conducting a series of ethics and values workshops as part of its University Scholarship Program. These workshops, led by ethics and conduct experts from CMI, María del Rosario de Falla and Mariano Codoñer, targeted scholars currently pursuing university studies, spanning from first to fifth year.
The goal was to equip students with practical tools to tackle the personal and professional challenges inherent in their academic and social development, fostering a culture of responsibility and respect.
Tailored Topics for Each Academic Level
Each academic level of scholars received content specifically designed to align with their stage of development, addressing relevant realities and challenges. The workshops were structured as follows:
- First Year: “Learning to REIR in a New Reality.” This workshop focused on adapting to university life, encouraging an open and resilient mindset when facing initial changes and challenges. REIR refers to the foundational values of Responsibility, Excellence, Integrity, and Respect, which also spell out the Spanish word for LAUGHTER—symbolizing a positive and resilient approach to personal and academic growth.
- Second Year: “A REIR Personality Is Built on Strong Self-Esteem and Character Control.” This phase emphasized the importance of self-awareness and emotional regulation in building a balanced personality.
- Third Year: “A Person with Emotional Intelligence Knows How to REIR in Any Situation.” Third-year students explored the role of emotional intelligence in decision-making and conflict resolution.
- Fourth Year: “Those Who Know How to REIR Make the Difficult Easy, the Small Great, and the Impossible Possible.” Participants learned how to handle complex situations with positivity and resilience.
- Fifth Year: “REIR: Our Beacon for Achieving Professional Excellence.” Final-year students reflected on how to apply these values as they transition into their professional lives.
Strengthening the REIR Values Culture

Using a participatory methodology, students identified risky situations and learned conflict resolution techniques, skills that will be valuable in both their personal and professional lives.
This experience fostered deep reflection on the importance of values across different contexts, helping young people make more thoughtful and responsible decisions.
Additionally, the guidance provided by the Foundation’s coaching team plays a crucial role in the scholars’ holistic development, both academically and personally. The ethics and values workshops strengthen the academic excellence of the scholars and enhance their ethical and moral commitment.Under the vision for development and education championed by Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, President of the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, the organization is dedicated to shaping future leaders who excel not only in their academic achievements but also in their ability to positively influence their communities and society as a whole.
